| Memorial Park for Noongar warrior
More than 170 years after Yagan's death, the head of the Noongar warrior will be buried at a memorial park in the Swan Valley.
The Department of Indigenous Affairs has given the City of Swan more than $500,000 to develop the park in his honour.
Yagan (c.1795-1833) was an Aboriginal warrior of the Noongar (Nyungar) people in Western Australia. After being declared an outlaw and shot in 1833, Yagan's head was severed in Belhus, near Guildford. His head was preserved by smoking it in a hollow tree stump for several months and was then later sent to Great Britain as an artefact. Yagan's head was returned to Western Australia in 1997 and will finally be buried at the Swan Valley memorial site.
The Yagan Memorial Park will be open to the public.
